Our Annual School Programme 2009

Every year we hold an Annual Entertainment Programme at our school.

We invite all our parents and friends to come and see. We sing, dance, act out comedy plays and try to educate our audience through comedy, but most of all, we have a great time.

It's our chance to let our hair down and really enjoy ourselves!

If you missed our show we've added some clips below for you to enjoy. If you'd like a DVD of the complete show, become a 'follower' and contact us and we'll tell you how you can get your very own copy to keep and watch again and again.

Glaxo Smith Kline Orange Day - November 2009

Every year GSK have a day where their staff carry out volunteer work in the community. It's called the Orange Day, this year an army of GSK volunteers arrived on 23rd November 2009, and between them they gave nearly 200 children a talk on hygiene, prepared a hot lunch of chicken and rice on a open pit flame(I can tell you, it was delicious - their Sales Director could easily become one of Dhaka's finest Chefs!), they cleared the campus, planted trees and painted a large wall 'orange' to remind us of their visit. The children thanked them with an impromptu music concert.

GSK also donated de-worming tablets for all the children as part of our on-going health drive. So from all the children at the SoH, thanks for taking the time to come and help out at our school.

A particular thanks goes to Rumana Ahmed & Sarwar Khan. We hope to see you all soon.

The School of Hope receive a visit from the England U-19 Cricket Team

We had a wonderful surprise when the England U-19 Cricket team dropped in to say hello and to present us with 56,000 Taka which was the sum of all the fines collected during their tour. So thank you, and please continue to misbehave, because after all,it's for a good cause!

Welcome to The School of Hope - Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Our school was formed in 1990 and provides an 'almost free'* education to 200 children aged 4-11 who live in some of the poorest slums in Dhaka. Along with a daily educational school programme the children also receive a free hot meal and snack of fruit during their school day. The school is funded solely by donations.

This is is our blog - we aim to keep you updated and involved in what we're doing, what we're learning and who's supporting us and how you can help too.

So Welcome to The School of Hope Blog!

* Parents contibute a nominal amount of 5 Taka a month (£0.05 or $0.07 equivalent)
